Then I thought zombie baby. Then I thought a Zombie having a repressed memory surface. Odd stuff. I had a digital shot that I hand painted for all the zombie effects and then a Vue5 background. I wanted something sick. But something humorous at the same time.

First was building the hover craft. That was done in photoshop separately.Piece by piece. Digital photography of a model and then placement on the hover craft. Then digitally altering the model from hair to clothing. I tried everything for a background. First trying digital photography and then settling on a Vue5 rendering to add in spacecraft. then to make the spacecraft more ominous I added the tentacles. I did fifteen mulitple texture layers...each for different effects and then wiped away what effects I didn't want and then added another layer doing the same thing. I think I have what i finally wanted. hope ya'll like

I hand painted using Painter the earth-type planet backdrop. Vue 5 was used for the rig being constructed and the ships. Used painter for most of color schematics. The model is, of course, my business partner who is actually 28. So you can see alot fo work went in to creating wrinkles and aging factors. The staff itself was created a long time ago for another book cover, but I liked it so much I thought it would work well here. The orb is actually a fountain globe set atop handpainted birds claws and staff. I dodge-tooled comets and planets into the vista. The skulls were an old museum stock shots and I simply layered them back after running a perspective for distance to make them look as if they were sinking into the mire of the river.

I added the battlegear, building it piece by piece in photoshop. The backdrop is actually just a garden statue enlarged. Her face is totally photoshopped, and hair is handdrawn. Totally unrecognizable from the original shot. I did several variations on lighting until I settled on one from a right diagonal to give more mystery to the picture and more darkness to the foreground. My intent was to create an image of a general that was unexpected....an older woman.

I had this inspiration to do something on the order of the Ridley Scott Movie "Legend" where the hero meets ancompletely unexpected foe in the swamp. Here, lighting is everything to cast a supernatural feel. All the elements have to feel preternatural so I decided to go with alot of behind the scenes lights, then dramatic beneath the scene lights to capture the feeling of the immense serpent neath the water. I did about 50 layers here, all lit differently to capture the unearthly feel. The model was immensely morphed. I had pictures from trees in Vicksburg Tennesee for a backdrop, and then alot of the swamp was handpainted. Total hours 36.
So many conplexities with this I ended up experimenting well beyond my normal range with different textures in Vue5 and different opacity layers over the figure itself which is a combo of poser and digital photography of one of my models. Hopefully, I have conveyed the subtle feeling of water movement in her hair and the light layers from the surface to the depth. I used painter for alot of colors becase I didn't want "human" colors to the figure since she is obviously not a surface dweller.
